Globally, International Teacher's Day is celebrated on October 5 and commemorates the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.

The teacher's day festivities in all the countries generally include a day of leisure and relaxation for the teachers. The students usually organize concerts, cultural programmes and other festivities for teachers. Teachers are also thanked with gifts and thank you notes by students. Teacher's Day is seen as a day not just to give gifts to teachers but also as a day to develop bonding with them.
