SURAT: A 21-year-old college student was arrested from Adajan on Thursday for allegedly murdering a maid working in his house in May. A detailed postmortem report received by the police in October confirmed that the maid was murdered.
Dhruv Jayesh Ramani, a student of second year of travel and tourism degree course of a college in Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand, who stayed in hostel, was arrested following investigation. His involvement was established through electronic and human intelligence. Dhruv lived with his family in Adajan near Gangeshar Mahadev Temple.
Body of an unidentified woman was found from behind Safal Square in Vesu on the night of May 26. Her postmortem revealed that she was strangled. She was identified as Durga Vijay Kami (26), a resident of watchman's room in Navkar Society of Adajan. Kami was employed as a domestic help in Ramani household.
Dhruv was at home on May 26 when Durga came to work as per her daily routine. There was no one else in the house. She was working when Dhruv started to harass her to which she objected to. The accused feared that she would complain to his parents, so he strangled her with a piece of cloth. He then draped the body with a cloth and took it in his car to dump it in Vesu.
Dhruv lived a normal life once he returned after dumping the body. He did not inform anyone, including his family members, about the incident, the police said. "Since it is a six-month-old murder case, collecting evidence was a big challenge. We are not in position to disclose more details because investigations are still on in the case," the police said.
