Tesla Roadster may go from 0-60mph even faster than 1.9 seconds, here’s why

TESLA Roadster was launched on Friday as a special add-on to the Semi truck launch in Hawthorne California, boasting world-beating specs. Company CEO Elon Musk has now confirmed that it could still be faster.

Tesla Roadster could go faster than 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds

was launched on Friday as a shock add-on to the unveiling.

The Roadster 2.0 is a reimagining of the first car the Californian electric car manufacturer produced.

When the first car launched it was expensive, low volume and essentially a modified Lotus, but the evolved Roadster could be a bonafide world-beater.

It has been slated to have a spec sheet associated with a petrol supercar with a price tag in the millions.

Roadster 2.0 will go from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds - which would make it the first car to accelerate to this speed in under two seconds.

It will also go from 0-100mph in 4.1 seconds and cover a quarter mile drag strip in 8.9 seconds.

Provisionally the top speed has been set at 250mph+, making it faster than a Koenigsegg CCR, McLaren F1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari.

In addition to this it will also have a range of 620 miles on a single charge which is almost double what the Tesla Model S has, thanks to its 200kWh battery.

These specs have captivated the car world since the car rolled out of the shipping container on Friday but company CEO Elon Musk has alluded to it being even quicker than this.

In a tweet Musk said: “Should clarify that this is the base model performance.

“There will be a special option package that takes it to the next level.”

This was attached to the photograph of the Roadster saying “0 to 100 km/h in 1.9 sec.”

The base model Roadster will cost $200,000 but a Founders Edition has also been confirmed which costs $250,000.

Whether or not this increased performance will be reserved for the Founders Edition or another new iteration of the car, is not yet known.

Provided the Roadster can deliver on its lofty promises, it could be the car to finally silence petrol and diesel.

What the Roadster also means for motorists is the possibility that, within the next five years, Tesla will be manufacturing cars with range exceeding 400, 500 and maybe even 600 miles on a single charge.

Musk did add a caveat in a further tweet saying that while the higher speed is possible, it is not guaranteed.

“Not saying the next gen Roadster special upgrade package *will* definitely enable it to fly short hops, but maybe …

“Certainly possible. Just a question of safety. Rocket tech applied to a car opens up revolutionary possibilities.”
