The four-time world champion will race in the season finale in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

And while he's there, Hamilton will hold talks with team bosses to rubberstamp the new deal.

The Brit's current contract is up at the end of next season but he is expected to agree to a three-year extension that will move him in line with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel.

Vettel has been the best paid driver for the past two years but Hamilton will join him by taking home £40m a year.

It's a huge pay rise for Lewis Hamilton, who is currently earning £32m a season.

Team boss Toto Wolff said: "He's the greatest driver I've worked with. We want him to stay."

David Coulthard this week warned Hamilton to not get greedy in his pay talks with Mercedes.

He told Express Sport: "“Last time around, it took time, and he was in no rush.

“He’s got absolute confidence and belief that he is a great asset to the team and the team will have a final number that they can afford to pay him.

“They’re in the business of running an F1 team so they’re not going to write him a blank cheque.

“It’s about finding a middle ground. But when there’s absolute desire to work together, you always find a solution.”
