James Bulger’s mum brands killer John Venables a ‘VILE PSYCHOPATH’ as he 'returns to jail'

JAMES Bulger's mother has launched a blistering attack on the “vile, perverted psychopath” who murdered her son after he was reportedly returned to prison after being found with indecent images on his computer.

Denise Fergus, whose two-year-old son was abducted, tortured and murdered by Jon Venables and Robert Thompson in 1993, said she predicted the killer would re-offend.

Venables, who was 10 years old when he committed the horrific murder, has been caught with child abuse images on a computer for the second time.

Ms Fergus told Sky News: "Venables has now proved beyond any doubt what a vile, perverted psychopath he has always been."

Venables, now 35, had previously been jailed in 2010 after downloading and distributing dozens of indecent images of children.

Officials are thought to have found a stash of indecent material on his computer during a routine check.

Ms Fergus tweeted “here we go again” when she heard Venables had reoffended.

The killer’s identity is protected by a lifelong order and has been changed four times since his release in 2001 – at a cost of £250,000 to the taxpayer each time.

The criminal has been constantly monitored by probation officers in recent years and is considered an ultra high-risk ex-offender.

He is now subject to a major police investigation for breaching the terms of the life licence handed to him in 1993.

The child abuser will now be held indefinitely while the new allegations are probed and a Parole Board assesses him.

He could now remain in prison for the rest of his life if he is deemed too much of a public risk.

Back in 2013 James’ dad, Ralph, expressed his fears that Venables would re-offend if allowed out of prison.

He told the Sun: “Jon Venables is and always was a predatory sex killer who will never be changed.

“He will always be a danger to children which is why he must be locked up for life."

The murder of James Bulger horrified the British public

Meanwhile, James’ mum, Denise Fergus has said: “There are experts who say Jon Venables is a psychopath and I believe that is true.

“I fear they will find that with him they have another Ian Brady on their hands.”

Venables and Thompson became England’s youngest ever murderers following James' death and were both given life-long anonymity.

It is thought that up to £5million of UK taxpayers’ money has been spent on the rehabilitation of Venables since he was first released from prison in 2001.

However, official records have also revealed the extensive costs of guarding Venables in prison.

Taxpayers money totalling £279,000 was spent on round the clock care for the offender during an 18month spell in prison as he was believed too at risk to be housed with other inmates.

Denise Fergus has raised funds for bullied children in honour of her late son

Venables and Thompson snatched the two-year-old toddler outside of a butcher’s shop after Bulger’s mother went inside briefly.

The pair then sexually abused and tortured James Bulger and the infant’s body was found mutilated on a railway line in Walton, Liverpool, two days later.

They were found guilty of murder in November 1993 and were imprisoned until 2001, when they turned 18-years-old.

But, in 2010 it was revealed Venables had downloaded and distributed more than 100 images of child abuse, some rape victims being as young as two.

He was freed from prison for the second time in 2013 after a recommendation from the Parole Board.

At the time, Bulger’s parents said they were filled with “terror” at the situation.
