NEW DELHI: Majority of the bank stocks were trading in the red in afternoon trade on Thursday.

The Nifty Bank was trading 0.38 per cent down at 25,669 around 1 pm (IST), with shares of Bank of Baroda (down 1.58 per cent), Canara Bank (down 1.44 per cent), Punjab National Bank (down 1.40 per cent), ICICI Bank (down 0.78 per cent) and State Bank of India (down 0.49 per cent) as the top losers.

Shares of HDFC Bank (down 0.34 per cent), Axis Bank (down 0.29 per cent), Federal Bank (down 0.27 per cent), YES Bank (down 0.24 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 0.14 per cent) and IDFC Bank (down 0.09 per cent) were also in the red.

IndusInd Bank (up 1.04 per cent) was the only component in the Nifty Bank index that was trading up around that time.

Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index was 7 points down at 10,336, while the BSE Sensex was 14 points down at 33,548.

Among the 51 stocks in the Nifty50 index, 16 were trading in the green, while 33 were in the red.

Shares of BHEL, Idea Cellular, Ashok Leyland, State Bank of India, Tata Power, Punjab National Bank, Axis Bank, BEL, SAIL, DLF, Bank of Baroda and ITC were among the most traded stocks on the NSE.

Shares of Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Bharti Infratel, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, HCL Technologies and Reliance Industries were among the top gainers in the Nifty50 index.

However, Adani Ports SEZ, Dr Reddy's Labs, Hindalco, Indiabulls Housing Finance, GAIL and Bajaj Auto were among the losers in the Nifty50 index.
