Stinking pools of water formed due to poor execution of side drains

The civic administration was forced to press into service septic tank cleaning machines to clear the waterlogged drains along the R&B main roads in Karimnagar town on Wednesday.

Municipal Commissioner Shashanka and Mayor S. Ravinder Singh during their inspection of the city found the unscientific execution of drains by the R&B had resulted in water stagnating in the newly constructed drains on the SRR College Road in the town. The stagnant pool was not only stinking but also had turned a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Money wasted

With there being no way to let the water out, the municipal authorities roped in the septic tank suction machine vehicles and drained out the rainwater from the side-drain. The Municipal Commissioner and Mayor flayed the R&B officials for unscientific execution of side drains in spite of government allocating ₹100 crore for the beautification of roads.

Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao during his maiden visit to the town in 2014 had sanctioned ₹100 crore for the beautification of 14.5 kilometer length of R&B roads in the town. However, the project is incomplete and the areas work has been done has several flaws and irregularities.

Written complaint

The Municipal Administration lodged a written complaint against the R&B officials to Collector Sarfaraz Ahmad and R&B state officials.

Municipal Commissioner K. Shashanka and Mayor S. Ravinder Singh said that they had removed clogged drains from eight junctions in the town. He said that the R&B officials have failed to construct cross-culverts in the drains which resulted in the water stagnating instead of flowing.
