Morning train service was cancelled on the Mont-Saint-Hilaire commuter train line heading downtown after a train struck and killed a pedestrian on Montreal's South Shore.
The incident occurred around 6:15 a.m. near the Saint-Bruno station, along Highway 116.
Longueuil police say a man in his 30s was taken to hospital with serious lower body injuries. Later in the morning, police confirmed the man's death.
They are presently investigating the incident as a suicide, according to Const. Mélanie Mercille.
Some passengers aboard the train were treated at the scene for shock.
The Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM), which runs train service in the Greater Montreal area, cancelled trains 803, 805, 807 and 809 from Mont-Saint-Hilaire to Central station.
Train service toward Montreal is on schedule for the afternoon and evening.
