College student arrested for murdering maid in May

SURAT: Police arrested a 21-year-old college student from Adajan area on Thursday for allegedly murdering a domestic help in May. The accused allegedly molested the woman after which he killed her fearing that she would complain to his parents.


Police arrested Dhruv Jayesh Ramani, a student of second year in travel and tourism degree course at Vallabh Vidyanagar in Anand, following investigation. Dhruv lives with his family in Adajan near Gangeshar Mahadev Temple while he stay in hostel for studies at VV Nagar.


The accused was nabbed after police found his involvement through electronic and human intelligence. Body of an unidentified woman was found from behind Safal Square in Vesu on night of May 26. Her post mortem revealed that she was strangulated to death. Meanwhile, she was identified as Durga Vijay Kami, 26, a resident of watchman's room in Navkar Society of Adajan. Kami was employed as domestic help at residence of Ramani.


Dhruv was at home on May 26 when the deceased came to work at his home as per her daily routine. She was working in the house when Dhruv started molesting her. She strongly objected after which the accused feared that she would complain to his parents. He then strangulated her to death. Dhruv covered the body in cloth and dumped it in Vesu area. He took the body to Vesu in his car and no one was present at his home when he murdered the woman.
