'So EVIL': Cat found hanged with dressing gown cord outside church by sick yob

SICKENED churchgoers were confronted with the sight of a pet cat hanged with a dressing gown cord outside their place of worship.

The pet cat was seen hanging from the railings outside Moston Spiritualist Church in Manchester

The ginger and white cat’s body was still warm when it was found dangling from railings by members of the congregation.

Animal cruelty investigators have released graphic photographs of the cat with the cord around its neck as they await post mortem findings.

The RSPCA took the cat’s body away for forensic examination after it was discovered outside the Moston Spiritualist Church in Manchester earlier this week.

Church vice president Brenda Kennedy described how the discovery had left the congregation devastated.

The cat was described as healthy, but had no collar or microchip to confirm its identity or owner

There is nothing to suggest the church has been specifically targeted, but it was obviously done deliberately so as many people as possible would see it

Brenda Kennedy

Although she believes the church was not being deliberately targeted, whoever left the cat hanging 6ft up on the railings had to wanted to shock people.

Mrs Kennedy said: “We can’t believe that someone could be so evil. It’s shocking.

“I am a real animal lover so I was just devastated. We were all devastated and really upset.

“There is nothing to suggest the church has been specifically targeted, but it was obviously done deliberately so as many people as possible would see it.

“The cat was visible from the pavement and from the street and whoever did it must have known there was a service on because it’s advertised on a board outside church.

“We just want to warn pet owners that someone is out there doing this.”

The cat is described as healthy but had no collar or microchip to identify its owner or an address. It had not been neutered.

RSPCA inspector Danielle Jennings, who is investigating the case, said: “At the moment we don’t know how this poor cat died.

“What we do know is that he was found hanged by the neck from a fence at the church, and that he appeared to be otherwise healthy.”

As investigators await the outcome of post mortem tests, they are appealing for witnesses and the cat’s owner to come forward.

“His body has now been sent off to post mortem so that we can try to establish what happened to him,” said inspector Jennings

“We want to hear from anyone who thinks he may be their cat.

“Of course we also want to hear from anyone who saw anything at all or has any information that they think might help my investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact the RSPCA confidential appeal line on 0300 123 8018.
