VADODARA: The total assets of BJP's richest MLA in Vadodara district have doubled in the last five years.
Against Rs 24.12 crore that Padra BJP MLA Dinesh Patel aka Dinu Mama had declared as the total assets of his and his wife in 2012, the couple now has total assets worth Rs 53.03 crore including movable and immovable assets.
The Padra MLA, who also enjoys chairmanship of Baroda Dairy, on Wednesday became the first political heavyweight in the district, to file his nomination papers where he was joined by Kheda MP Devusinh Chauhan.
Interestingly, the total movable assets of Patel and his wife Rashmika, who claim to have agriculture, trade and rent as their main source of income, have jumped four-fold in five years. In 2012, the couple's total movable assets stood at Rs 3.99 crore which have increased to Rs 17.02 crore going by the affidavit that Patel submitted while filing his nomination.
Ironically, while the MLA's total movable assets have doubled from Rs 3.31 crore in 2012 to Rs 7.17 crore in 2017, his wife's movable assets have increased by 14 times from Rs 67.58 lakh in 2012 to Rs 9.85 crore in 2017.
The couple's total immovable assets have also rose from Rs 20.13 crore in 2012 to Rs 36.01 crore in 2017.
Patel said that the assets have increased as the market value of agriculture land which he and his family owns have increased compared to original price of the land.
The process of filing papers also got lengthy for the BJP MLA as the election officer Deepshikha Sharma, assistant collector of Vadodara (rural) was not ready to accept the annexures separately that the candidate had submitted along with his affidavit. Even as the official after seeking guidance from her seniors later accepted the annexures that Patel had submitted, they were not uploaded online along with Patel's affidavit.
Apart from Patel, an independent candidate also filed his nomination from Dabhoi assembly constituency taking the total number of nominations to two in the district.
