Boys won't date me and refuse to believe I'm single

My boyfriend and I were together for five years, and everyone we knew assumed we would marry someday. When we ended our relationship, it came as a shock to everyone in our circle of friends. It's been three months now, but everyone I consider going on a date with refuses because they are afraid of my boyfriend and believe we may decide to get back together. This is a very unfortunate thing because my boyfriend and I are very clear that we will never get back no matter what, after the last argument we had. How do I convince people that I am genuinely single and that this isn't some temporary break?
Does your boyfriend have the same problem dating women? If he doesn't, maybe there's something wrong with the men you appear to be interested in. If you say you are not in a relationship, and they choose to disregard your statement, it doesn't really show much respect, does it? The way I see it, this is just a temporary issue. It is inevitable that one of you will start dating again at some point. When that happens, things will automatically be easier for the other one. I still suggest you evaluate the kind of men you ask out though; the ones you have spoken to already clearly think it impossible that you should have a mind of your own.

I don't want to accompany my girlfriend to a family function because it will give her relatives the wrong idea. I can't commit to this relationship yet. What do I do?
It seems to me as if you are making a mountain out of a molehill. She is asking you to accompany her to a function, not walk down the aisle. Take a deep breath and try not to overreact to something as trivial as this; it will be good for your relationship in the long run. She isn't holding a gun to your head and forcing you to commit to anything.
