BLACK FRIDAY is frequently the setting for scenes of carnage at stores in the UK and US. These are some of the worst brawls captured on camera.

, started in the US to cater for shoppers on the first day after the Thanksgiving break, has become synonymous with scenes of carnage at shops. 

Videos have emerged most years of major brawls breaking out between frantic customers fighting over cut-price goods in US stores.

Some show shocking scenes of shoppers snatching items from the hands of children. 

In recent years the trend has erupted in the UK as retailers began slashing prices attracting mobs of customers prepared to trample each other to get their hands on bargains.

Despite ugly scenes in recent years, retailers and authorities have work to try and reduce chaotic scrambles for goods. 

Many stores beef up security for the sale, which lands on the Friday 24th November this year.

Stores in Manchester were severely criticised in 2014 after a number of arrests were made when police were forced to step in to calm furious crowds.

Greater Manchester's most senior policeman at the time Sir Peter Fahy tweeted: "Very disappointing that major stores did not learn lessons from last year - our officers have enough to do already."

During big shopping events like Black Friday it can be easy to get overwhelmed by discounts, deals and deductions

Which?

He said the incidents were "totally predictable" and said he was "disappointed stores did not have sufficient security staff on duty".

"We just ask these stores to work with us to reduce the demands on policing and reduce the risks of disorder and crime."

Retailer Tesco, where some of the incidents took place, said: "In the interest of customer safety a small number of stores in Greater Manchester contacted police last night to help control crowds safely.

"We are extremely grateful to Greater Manchester Police for their support and the stores are now trading normally."

Express.co.uk has compiled a list of the from Amazon, Argos and Curry's.

Around £2.6bn is expected to be spent this Black Friday injecting a much-needed boost into the UK economy.

But consumer groups have warned that shoppers should exercise caution as some of the deals on offer are not as good as they initially appear.

Consumer group Which? said: “During big shopping events like Black Friday it can be easy to get overwhelmed by discounts, deals and deductions. To get the best out of Black Friday, shoppers should do their research, form a plan and stick to it.”
