46-yr-old braves bullets to defy armed robbers, dies

A 46-year-old gas agency employee was shot at by three unidentified bike borne assailants after he resisted their bid to rob Rs 3 lakh from him in Outer Delhi's Paschim Vihar area on Monday evening. The employee identified as Jagannath succumbed to injuries in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said that they are scanning the CCTV cameras of the nearby area and have detained two persons.

According to a senior police officer, the incident took place at around 7:30pm, when Jagannath who works as a manager at a gas agency was heading to the gas agency owner's house with the entire day's collection. The gas agency is located on the Mianwali road.

As per preliminary investigation, Jagannath called the owner and told him that he is going to give him the cash. The deceased was carrying a total of Rs 3, 46,000 in a

bag.

However, when he reached near the nala on the Mianwali road, three bike borne men and stopped him. They tried to snatch away the cash bag but he resisted. They fired in the air but he did not leave the bag. When the deceased tried to flee, one of the bikers got down and fired at him.

After firing, they fled from the scene with the bag.

One of the locals informed the local police after which a team of police rushed Jagannath to the Guru Gobind Singh hospital where he later succumbed to injuries. Police said that they have registered a case of murder at the Paschim Vihar police station.
