Hundreds of students, who were part of the Telangana movement, joined the Congress party on Wednesday in the presence of Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, AICC Telangana in-charge Secretary R.C. Khuntia and AICC SC Cell chairman Koppula Raju.

Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said Telangana became a reality due to the struggle and sacrifices of students and youth but their desires with regard to employment and a democratic Telangana were not fulfilled due to the ‘autocratic rule’ of the TRS Government.

Mr. Reddy said Congress president Sonia Gandhi was moved by the sacrifices of students and youngsters for a separate State and she took the decision to see them happy despite knowing that the party would suffer in Seemandhra. “It was time to pay for her bold decision defeating the TRS in the next elections,” he said.

He said when the then united Andhra Pradesh government wanted to take up recruitment drives, students’ JAC rejected it and insisted only on separate Telangana. But Chief Minister K. Chandrasehkhar Rao deceived them and shattered all their dreams extracting benefits only for his family members. Once the party comes to power in 2019, the Congress would create more employment apart from filling up all the vacancies and it would strive to give ₹3,000 monthly allowance for the unemployed youth.

Mr. R.C. Khuntia accused the KCR of betraying the students and youth of Telangana. Mr. Koppula Raju urged the students to launch another movement against the anti-people’s policies of the TRS Government. He said that the students’ movement should penetrate all villages of Telangana. Party working president Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said instead of rewarding the students the TRS Government deprived all varsities the required funds.

Those who joined the party included Ellanna, Balakrishna and Durgam Bhaskar and they expressed their resolve to bring the party to power in next elections. Former MPs Ponnam Prabhakar and M. Anjan Kumar Yadav and TPCC general secretary Dasoju Sravan were among those present.
