The National Green Tribunal (NGT) on Tuesday said that any person who refused to pay the environmental compensation for violating orders stated by the Tribunal, would have to pay additional fines. Further, the green panel said that those in violation of the orders would be asked to appear before the Tribunal.
Notices ignored
The Delhi government and the corporations informed the green panel that despite serving notices to individuals who were found to be violating the norms, some of them refused to pay the fine.
A Bench headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar directed the authorities to take strict action against all those who failed to comply with the regulations stated by the Tribunal in the various orders. Further, it directed the authorities to prepare a list of all those people who have failed to pay the fine.
“The Delhi government and the corporations state that in terms of the orders passed by the tribunal, they issued notices to pay environment compensation varying from ₹1,000 to ₹5 lakh relatable to different violations, depending on the area. However, some of the noticees refused to pay the amount. In view of this, we direct that any person who refuses to pay environment compensation shall be served notice and simultaneously asked to appear before the NGT. We make it clear that they would be liable to pay additional costs,” the Bench said.
Earlier orders
Earlier, the green panel, in several orders had said that environmental compensations would be levied on all those who were found to be in violation of orders with respect to construction activities, plastic ban, parking norms and others. The matter has now been listed for later this week.
