JAGATSINGHPUR: Harassed over the ‘insensitive’ behaviour by local legislator and Agriculture Minister Damodar Rout, hundreds of farmers on Tuesday gheraoed Kujang tehsil office, demanding compensation for loss of crops due to unseasonal rain.  Farmers of Mangarajpur, Hasina criticised the statement of the Minister and demanded waiver of loans, compensation for crop loss, immediate release of stagnant rainwater from paddy fields, free seeds and fertilisers.

As per reports, untimely rains caused heavy damage to paddy crops in Kujang tehsil. After farm fields were inundated by rainwater, the paddy crops, which were ready for harvesting, became rotten and germinated. The affected farmers had aired their grievances and shown their rotten paddy crop to Rout on Sunday demanding compensation. However, the Minister allegedly misbehaved with the farmers.  On the day, Kujang Tehsildar Basudev Satpathy visited the affected areas of Kujang panchayat.
