Considering the state of traffic in the capital city, the traffic police have resumed their regular checking drive from Wednesday in order to keep a tab on the violators.
Brainstorming on several other ways to curtail the ever-growing traffic mess, vehicles without permits are being seized immediately on the spot. Also, in order to ensure smooth vehicular movement, soon a few adjunct cuts alongside the main routes will be closed considering the heavy traffic snarl during the peak hours.
“The task of identifying the cuts on two major routes has begun. The engineers of Department of Road Construction have been assigned the work of identifying such complex cuts. Within a week, report will be submitted,” said, SP (Traffic), Sanjay Ranjan Singh.
Notably, the city residents in the recent days had witnessed heavy traffic jam at New Market Area, MG Road and other routes where even the Chief Minister’s carcade got stuck thrice and was diverted to other routes. Chief Minister Raghubar Das on November 21 inspected few susceptible areas that often witnesses traffic jam. Acting sternly, the CM ordered the officials on the spot to immediately close cuts that create trouble in managing traffic in the rushed hours.
The decision to close down a few cuts was taken way back by the District Administration in order to streamline the traffic system; however, it could not be implemented. However, by far, the traffic DSPs has not received any official communiqué from the department as from when the cuts alongside the main routes of Main Road including Harmu By-pass road will be closed. Around 18 cuts are there at Harmu By-pass road while MG Road also registers quite a number of cuts that often create hindrance in smooth vehicular movement.
“We are yet to receive communiqué from the Department. As soon as, we get the order, the process of closing down the cuts will be initiated. Meanwhile, the process of removing street vendors has been started. Also, the traffic police personnel have begun its regular checking drive exercise,” said, Traffic DSP-1, Dilip Xalxo.
“The problem began from August 20 as we have been instructed not to impose fine on the defaulters, as a result several auto-rickshaw and e-rickshaw drivers were driving without any fear or restriction. From November 21, we have initiated the checking drive in a full-fledged way. Soon the traffic system will be rationalized. Also, sufficient number of traffic police personnel has been deputed on major routes to crack the whip on the defaulters,” added Xalxo.
The traffic police personnel are also adopting other new measures to create awareness on road safety. After starting the checking drive in full-fledged manner, the violators are being shown movie on road safety.
Home-guard personnel are also likely to be roped in to assist the traffic police team in the days to come while with the help of Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) enforcement cell, the traffic police are nabbing the auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaw drivers who are ferrying passengers without permits.
