Mumbai: Benchmark Sensex rose over 83 points on Wednesday to close at an over two-week high of 33,561.55, fuelled by infrastructure, PSU and auto stocks, PTI reported. However, the gains were capped by battered metal and healthcare stocks. Sentiment was bolstered by positive global cues, with Hong Kong stocks breaking the 30,000-barrier for the first time in 10 years as Asian markets extended a global rally following another record close on the Wall Street on strong world growth and rising corporate earnings. The Sensex opened higher at 33,569.07 and continued its upward march to hit a high of 33,654.53 on unabated buying by participants, particularly domestic investors. The gauge had gained 717.91 points in the previous four sessions. The broader Nifty scaled a high of 10,368.70, but finished at 10,342.30, up 15.40 points, or 0.15%. 3.32 pm ISTTop gainers/losersAdani Ports, HDFC, SBI and Maruti were top gainers on the BSE basket with gains to the tune of 3.27%, 1.53%, 1.35% and 1.27%, respectively. Meanwhile, shares of Axis Bank, Dr. Reddy’s Labs and Lupin fell 1.23%, 1.23% and 1.16%, respectively.
3.05 pm ISTSectoral indicesThe Nifty Media rose 2.73% followed by the Nifty PSU Bank, which was up 1.54%. On the losing side, the BSE Telecom fell 0.95% followed by metal, which was down 0.69%.

The agency is negative on the telecom sector as it expects the intensifying competition to continue to pressure revenue and margins over the next 12 months.
2.40 pm ISTNeuland Labs board approves purchase of manufacturing facilityNeuland Laboratories Ltd said its board of directors approved the acquisition of a manufacturing facility of Arch Pharmalabs Ltd located at Gaddapotharam in Medak District of Telangana. Shares fell 0.36% to Rs1,214.05. Earlier in the day, shares rose 6.61% to Rs1,299.

2.15 pm ISTRIL raises Rs2,500 crore via NCDsReliance Industries Ltd has issued Rs2,500 crore of unsecured non-convertible redeemable debentures in a private placement, the company said in a BSE filing. RIL shares traded 0.28% lower at Rs929.75.
2.03 pm ISTRupe trades higher; Bond yield risesThe rupee was trading at 64.85 a dollar, up 0.06% from its Tuesday’s close of 64.89. The rupee opened at 64.77 a dollar. The 10-year bond yield was at 6.95%, compared to its previous close of 6.89%.

Taiwan dollar was up 0.49%, South Korean won 0.40%, Malaysian ringgit 0.38%, Philippines peso 0.17%, Japanese yen 0.15% and Indonesian rupiah rose 0.09%. However, China offshore was down 0.07%. The dollar index, which measures the US currency’s strength against major currencies, was trading at 93.946, down 0.01% from its previous close of 93.952.
