A 12-year-old boy Prateek, son of Ganga Vishnu from village Basai in Gurugram and a Class VI student of a local school, admitted with severe vomiting and loose motion conditions in a private hospital on November 21, died on Wednesday.
Alleging negligence, parents and family members started protest against the hospital. They, however, ended the protest after police arrived and held talks promising action.
“We received a complaint from the victim family. The body was handed over to the family after the postmortem examination. We have asked a report from the civil surgeon on the matter. Necessary actions will be taken once we receive the report,” Vijay Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of Sadar police station, said.
Family members said they admitted him to a private hospital on Tuesday evening. “Around 10 pm he developed some restlessness following which hospital staff shifted him to the Intensive care unit (ICU). However, his condition worsened suddenly on Wednesday early morning,” said a family member.
“Worried parents of the boy immediately informed the hospital doctors but there were no doctors to attend him, only para-medical staff was available. After a conversation with the doctor on phone the staff administered an injection. Later the boy's condition worsened and he died on Wednesday morning at around 8 am,” said sources.
The family alleged that the boy died after being administered wrong injection. They refused to take the body. The boy's mother also alleged that the hospital staff also tempered with the medical record of the deceased boy.
Meanwhile, the hospital management said when the boy was admitted to the hospital his condition was serious. He was suffering from diarrhoea and typhoid. They also said some of the organs of the boy were not responding which could be the reason for his death. However, the parents alleged that the hospital's negligence had caused his death.
