In view of the raging controversy and life threats by Rashtriya Rajput Karni Sena and other right-wing groups to Deepika Padukone, lead actress in the controversial film Padmavati, the ruling Congress Government in Karnataka has decided to provide security to Deepika and her family.

Karnataka Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy said on the sidelines of the ongoing winter session of the Karnataka Assembly at Belagavi on Monday that the State will provide security to the actress and her family in the wake of the threats.

He said "Whenever Deepika is here in Karnataka, we will ensure that she gets adequate security. We will also provide security cover to her family who are staying here."

Meanwhile Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah asked his Haryana counterpart Manohar Lal Khattar to take "stringent action" against those threatening the actress.
