Amazon has signed a deal with AMC Studios to broadcast it shows first on Amazon Prime Video in 28 territories including India before they will be available on any other channel. As part of the deal, Amazon Prime will have first window rights to select new AMC series as well as second run rights in many other countries across the globe, Amazon said in a statement.

AMC’s shows include Breaking Bad, Mad Men, The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead, Preacher amongst others. The first new AMC show coming to Amazon Prime Video worldwide in 2018 will be the Anthology Series The Terror.

Note that, AMC has its own streaming app. However, it looks like from the reviews on Android Play store that the app did not take off. The deal will enable Amazon to add more weight to its list of Prime content internationally, while AMC studios will be able to tap international audience with the tie-up. Rick Olshansky, President of Business Operations, AMC Studios, said in a statement that this agreement “underscores the high global demand for AMC’s must-have content and franchises and enables us to bring our popular shows to a wide global audience.”

To battle players such as Netflix globally and Hotstar in India, Amazon is focusing on expanding its Premium catalogue. In August, Amazon signed a deal with Turner to stream Cartoon Network shows in India. This week Prime Video announced the addition of the three new reality shows: Jestination Unknown, a travel comedy, The Remix, a music show, and Comic Kaun, a comedy talent hunt. Amazon Prime Video launched on 14 December 2016 across 200 countries, including India.
