Manchester City vs Feyenoord: Smoke bombs and flares set off as fans take over city centre

THOUSANDS of supporters have descended on Manchester city centre ahead of tonight's game at the Ethiad, with flares and smoke bombs being released in crowded streets.

Feyenoord fans have officially been allotted 3,000 seats for tonight’s clash with Manchester City, but many more are believed to have travelled to the city ahead of the evening’s game.

The Dutch fans add to the huge number of people expected to visit Manchester tonight, with 18,000 Little Mix fans also attending a concert nearby.

Shambles Squares was packed with fans of the Rotterdam club, with videos from the scene showing smoke rising from among the crowd.

Supporters were escorted to the stadium to see Pep Guardiola’s side clash with their European opponents at 5pm.

Pep Guardiola has claimed Phil Foden is ready for his senior debut as he braces Manchester City for what he believes will be their trickiest spell of the season.

Guardiola believes with 13 games to play in all competitions between now and January 2 and England defender John Stones ruled out for up to six weeks through injury, City’s mettle will be tested like never before.

As he prepares to rotate his squad, starting in the Champions League clash with Feyenoord tonight, Guardiola could turn to Foden or two of his fellow City youngsters.

The midfielder, who helped England win the Under-17s World Cup this year, has trained with the first team all season alongside Tosin Adarabioyo, a 20-year-old defender, and midfielder Brahim Diaz, aged 18.

Guardiola said: “They are ready. Otherwise they would not be training here every day with us.

“In the high level, we try to help the young players, but they have to have quality to train with us.

“It’s not just to have fun or be gentle. They are there because they have a chance to play with us.”
