Birmingham players blamed

5.50pm: Gianfranco Zola’s assistant has defended the Italian’s nightmare spell at Birmingham City.

Fomer Italy striker Pierluigi Casiraghi said: “Birmingham didn’t go very good because the team was built for the previous coach, we changed thinking we could adapt our players to a different kind of football, but the squad was not ready to make these changes yet.

“We’ve faced many difficulties trying to change during the match: that’s the reason.”

Christiansen's Wolves compliment

5.00pm: Leeds head coach Thomas Christiansen believes Wolves are the Championship’s top dogs.

Christiansen takes his side to Molineux tomorrow night (7.45pm) on the back of Sunday’s win against Middlesbrough.

“I believe Wednesday’s match is one of the most difficult games that we will have, Wolves are a great team, they have performed really well and they are where they are because of how well they have played until now.

“From the games I have analysed and their position in the table, in my opinion Wolves are the best team in the league right now.”

Leeds contract blow

4.30pm: Leeds target Kamil Jozwiak has extended his contract with Lech Poznan.

The Whites had a bid worth £180,000 plus add-ons (€200,000) knocked back by the Polish club earlier this month.

Jozwiak has now committed his future to Poznan until 2019, with a two-year option.

Sunderland's Watmore blow

4.00pm: Sunderland forward Duncan Watmore has suffered a suspected cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 23-year-old is set to undergo surgery once Black Cats doctors have assessed his scan results.

Watmore limped off before the half-time break in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Millwall.

He only recently returned from 10 months on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

Villa's Toner talks

3.30pm: Aston Villa have been contacted by Shamrock Rovers for Kevin Toner.

According to The Irish Sun, Shamrock have held talks about a possible deal for the 21-year-old defender.

Toner is currently on a season-long loan with League Two side Stevenage.

He is out of contract at Villa Park at the end of the season and his wages could be a problem for Shamrock.

Leeds striker deal

3.00pm: Leeds United striker Jack Clarke is set to sign his first professional contract.

According to Football Insider, the 16-year-old has agreed terms and will put pen to paper on his 17th birthday later this month.

Clarke has scored nine goals in seven starts for Leeds’ Under-18s this season.

He is viewed as one of the club’s brightest prospects.
