Arsenal news: Real Madrid star Karim Benzema given permission to seal summer transfer

REAL MADRID president Florentino Perez has reportedly given the green light for Karim Benzema to join Arsenal at the end of the season.

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Benzema, whose future at Real Madrid has grown uncertain in recent weeks.

The France international has been on the wane for some time now and, with Madrid stuttering, a January exit could be on the cards.

Just two goals from 13 games has seen the Bernabeu boo boys turn on him, while the departure of fan favourite Alvaro Morata has also left a sour taste at the Bernabeu.

And Spanish website Diario Gol claim Arsenal could now finally sign the striker when the transfer window opens in the summer.

For years now, Benzema has been tipped to make the move to north London.

Back during his time as a youngster with Lyon, Arsenal appeared favourites to sign him.

But a move failed to materialise with Benzema also snubbing Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United in the summer of 2009.

With Arsenal well-stocked up front, it would be a huge surprise if the 29-year-old was to finally link up with Arsene Wenger.

But Diario Gol claim the Gunners remain keen on striking a deal.

They are supposedly keen for Benzema to fill the void left by Alexis Sanchez's expected departure.

Sanchez's contract expires at the end of the season and Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain currently spearhead the race for his signature.

Arsenal's financial muscle also means they are well-placed to finally bring Benzema to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, AC Milan legend Daniele Massaro expects Inter Milan hotshot Mauro Icardi to replace Benzema in the summer.

"I can tell you today that Icardi will be at Real Madrid next year in place of Benzema," he said.
