PUNE: At Least eight workers lost their lives after an elevator breaks down during Bhima-Nira River linking project work at Bhigwan. As per the cops, the death toll might increase in the coming days.

As per police officer, a investigation is in process to collect information like how the cable gets break down.

The Bhima-Nira River linking project involves 24-km tunnel link between Nira river at Tavshi and Bhima river close to Ujani dam. At the time of incident, the tunnel work was in process at Akole, Kazhad and Dalaj villages. As per Additional superintendent of Pune rural police Tejaswini Satpute , “The incident occurred after the elevator’s cable break down. One sufferer is a local native whereas the others are from various parts of northern India,” reports stated.

The deceased were shifted to the Indapur sub-district rural hospital on Monday.

“Some of the workers had just completed their second shift and reached into one elevator to go to ground level. We receive an emergency call at 7pm,” a cop officer stated.

To prepare this project, a 3-km long tunnel has been ploughed using earthmoving machines.
