I had a casual relationship with a girl for a few months, where we dated on and off without actually committing to anything. We were okay with this arrangement until she met someone she really liked and told me she wanted to get into a steady relationship with him. I thought I would be okay with it, but I keep thinking about her a lot these days. I feel as if I made a serious mistake by letting her go. We weren't serious about each other at the time but, the more I think about it, the more I think I should call her and ask her to consider taking me back. Is this a good idea?
You can't really do much about it except tell her how you feel. This was a mutual decision, so I suppose you ought to be prepared for the possibility that she may not reciprocate your feelings, but I don't see what option you have. She's in a relationship, and supposedly likes who she's with, so you may have to simply accept her decision and move on. As Joni Mitchell once said, we don't know what we've got 'til
it's gone.
My girlfriend has a huge problem with the fact that I continue to be friends with my ex-girlfriend. I have pointed out repeatedly that we are sure about never getting back together, and continue to be friends because we used to be good friends even before we dated, but this doesn't appease her. She wants me to cut all ties with her, which I am not prepared to do. How do I manage this?
A relationship is about acceptance. If your ex-girlfriend is important, she should be a part of your life in much the same way your girlfriend is. You will simply have to convince her, or take a call on who you want to leave out of your life. That sounds harsh, but it seems like the only option being given to you by your girlfriend.
