Accusing Pakistan of constant unprovoked firings along the Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Army on Saturday conveyed to Pakistan that there appeared to be a disconnect between the intent of the Pak Army headquarters in Rawalpindi, which reiterates its desire for peace, and the actions of its troops on the ground, who resort to heavy firing without provocation. During their unscheduled talks, sought by Pak DGMO Major General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, on Saturday, the Indian DGMO, Lt Gen AK Bhatt, further exhorted the Pak official to resolve this ‘existent credibility gap’ and to ensure that peace and tranquility is maintained along the LoC. The India DGMO also clarified that Indian Army always maintains impeccable standards of professionalism and does not target civilians in any manner. The unscheduled hotline conversation between the two DGMOs took place following a request by the Pakistani side which alleged that the Indian security forces had resorted to unprovoked firing in Poonch and targeted civilians. Denying the allegations, Bhatt said, retaliatory firing by the Indian troops were only in response to unprovoked and repeated cease-fire violations by the Pak side.
