Transcript: Progressive Groups Call For Democratic Senator Franken to Resign

With a second accuser alleging sexual misconduct at the hands of Senator Al Franken, two prominent progressive groups are calling for his resignation.

Credo Action saying in a statement Franken failed to “take full responsibility for past sexual harassment, sexual assault and any other behavior that demeaned women.” Adding the Minnesota governor “should appoint a progressive woman to replace him.” Indivisible tweeting “Senator Al Franken should be held accountable and should resign.” Two women have accused Franken of sexual impropriety. 33-year-old Texas resident Lindsay Menz tells CNN that back in 2010 Franken grabbed her behind during this photo-op at the Minnesota State Fair.

Franken’s office says the senator doesn’t remember the moment taking place, but feels quote “badly” if he offended her.

Before that, Franken apologized to local radio news anchor Leeann Tweeden who alleged back in 2006 he grabbed her breasts in a photo and forced a kiss on her while they were on a USO Tour overseas.

Franken has urged the Senate Ethics Committee to investigate pledging to cooperate, but he has made no mention of resigning.

A spokesperson saying the senator would spend the Thanksgiving holiday “reflecting” with his family.
