Liverpool news: Jordan Henderson blames referee after Reds blow lead against Sevilla

JORDAN HENDERSON believes Liverpool were hard done by some crucial referee decisions in their 3-3 draw with Sevilla this evening.

Liverpool held a commanding three goal lead at half-time thanks to goals from Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane.

A win would have guaranteed Liverpool’s place in the knockout stages of the Champions League.

But they squandered their lead in the second half as Sevilla came out strong with Wissam Ben Yedder scoring two quick fire goals before the hour mark.

And Guido Pizarro’s stoppage time equaliser means Liverpool must get a result from their final group match against Spartak Moscow in two weeks’ time.

We did not keep the ball and I did think the free-kick and penalty decisions were soft to let them back in the game

Jordan Henderson

Alberto Moreno gave away the free-kick leading to Sevilla’s opening goal and brought down Ben Yedder in the box to concede the penalty for their second.

But Liverpool captain Henderson believes both decisions were soft.

"I am not sure (how the collapse happened). The first half was very good, disciplined, score good goals,” Henderson said.

“The second half was very bad, we did not start well at all. We gave a corner away and struggled from then on.

"We stopped playing football and did not get the ball to the front three to cause them problems. It does not feel good.

"We did not keep the ball and I did think the free-kick and penalty decisions were soft to let them back in the game. We need to be better.

"The message at half-time was to keep going and they were going to give it a right go, they had nothing to lose and we could not cope with it. At least it is still in our hands to top the group."
