Now, double murder post court shootout

| | Haridwar | in Dehradun

Crime spree continues unabated in Haridwar district, a day after the Roorkee court shootout, a double murder occurred in Saidabad village in Laksar on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. A couple was bludgeoned to death by some miscreants, police said, adding that an iron rod or a hammer was used in the murder.

. Police further said that the motive behind the double murder is not clear yet. “We are investigating the case from all angles,” said a police officer probing the crime, adding that robbery might be the motive.

The murdered couple is identified as Pawan Kumar, 58 and his wife Sarvesh, 50, who had been residing in Saidabad village for the past few years. Their two children- a son and a daughter- are staying in Haridwar city.

While the son is working as a driver, the daughter is married. As per the villagers, the couple did not have enmity with anyone in the village and the assailants must have come to rob their house.

Divulging details of the double murder, SP rural Manikant Mishra said that the police team had rushed to the village upon receiving information from the villagers at around 1.30 pm on Wednesday.

“They found the bodies inside splattered in blood and sent them for autopsy. Their heads were found smashed as the murderers might have used iron rod or hammer to kill them,” he added.

Queried over the motive of the double murder,  Mishra said that prima facie, it seemed to be a case of robbery. “The cupboard was found broken and the household items were found scattered. Given the couple’s advanced age,  the robbers might not have expected resistance. There is something strange in the case. In most of the robberies, the goons select houses located in desolate places and rarely one which is situated in the centre of a village surrounded by the neighbours’ houses. This is why we are probing the case from all possible angles,” SP rural said.
