NEW DELHI: Terming the allegations levied by Congress as "a chorus of baseless allegations," Union minister of law and justice Ravi Shankar Prasad on Tuesday accused the opposition party of shying away from the debate.
The minister was responding to allegations by Congress President Sonia Gandhi where she had accused the government of sabotaging the winter session of the Parliament.
The union minister cited examples of demonetization, GST and the surgical strikes to assert that it is Congress, and not BJP, who is shying away from discussion in the Parliament.
"Whenever there was discussion on #Demonetisation and the moment Congress realized that we are showing facts after facts which made Congress party uncomfortable, they walked out of Parliament," he said.
He recalled that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had invited both former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress party at the launch event of GST. However, neither Congress, not Singh attended the event.
The minister further alleged that the allegations against the government are an attempt by the opposition to find excuse for its impending defeat in the upcoming elections in Himachal Pradesh and Gujarat.
Speaking on the issue of faulty Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), the minister said, "The issue of faulty EVMs is raised only when Congress losses elections."
