PATNA: The state cabinet on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 684 crore for payment of salaries to contractual teachers for the period of July to September this year.

The salaries to contractual teachers were pending owing to the delay in release of funds from the Centre. Both Centre as well as state contribute funds (60:40) for payment to teachers under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.

In another important decision, the cabinet gave its nod to creation of a post for IG (prohibition). The post will be linked with the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) for investigating important cases related to liquor ban. A post of SP (prohibition) has also been created. The existing post of SP (OSD) in CID will be converted as the SP (prohibition).

In other decisions, the state cabinet approved funds to the tune of Rs78.87 crore for development of Bihar Sadan, a VIP guesthouse for elected representatives and officials in Delhi. This would be in addition to the existing Bihar Bhawan and Bihar Niwas. Sources said the proposed building would have over 200 rooms equipped with all modern facilities.

Total 20 decisions were taken in the cabinet meeting.
