Sir — It is matter of deep concern that most political parties never fulfil their promises. Indian morality, honesty and culture are based on keeping one’s promises. Pran jaye par vachan na jaye is the epitome of it all. But politicians never follow the adage. It is most unfortunate that the public at large is swayed by such election promises and politicians take advantage of this weakness of the masses.
It is a bad example to be followed by citizens if the Government does not keep its words. It is suggested that the Election Commission of India make a rule that provides for punitive measures against any party or politician who renegs on poll promises.
