The semester exams for law courses began on Monday, even as the Mumbai University failed to declare re-evaluation results.
Students were left with no option but to appear for fresh exams. A university official confirmed that nearly 700 of the 15,000 re-evaluation applications given by law students were still pending. Overall, more than 12,000 of the 70,000-odd re-evaluation applications are still pending.
Ashok Yende, director of the MU Law Academy, said, “So many students have complained to us that they are yet to receive their results. The same company that handles online assessment of answer sheets is messing it up again.”
Sachin Pawar, president of the Student Law Council, said, “The university’s assurance in the High Court to declare results by November 18 seems to be only for the petitioner students. Not all students can afford to go to court,” Mr. Pawar said.
First-year student Nayan Khobragade had applied for a review of marks in four subjects, but has not received the result for even one. “I had to reappear for the Law of Crime exam. Not only have I lost the money I spent applying for re-evaluation, but now I have had to shell out ₹1,050 to retake the exam.”
Another student, Devendra Sawant, said, “We are left with no choice. I don’t want to lose a term and hence will retake the exam on Wednesday.”
Meanwhile, 78,353 students appeared for the fifth semester BCom exams at 263 centres on Monday.
