Liverpool news: Luis Garcia talks Chelsea ghost goal and what Jose Mourinho said to him

LIVERPOOL hero Luis Garcia has claimed he genuinely believed he had scored against Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League back in 2005.

Liverpool stunned Chelsea at Anfield to progress to the final, where they would go on to beat AC Milan to be crowned champions of Europe for a fifth time.

However, Garcia's goal caused controversy with replays to this day still failing to show whether the ball actually crossed the line.

The former Spain international ran off in celebration and many Chelsea fans think his reaction persuaded the officials to award the goal.

But Garcia insists he genuinely thought the ball had crossed the line.

"No, I didn’t," the  ex-Liverpool man told Four Four Two when asked if he had celebrated in a bid to trick the officials.

"I had the best view of anyone and I celebrated the goal because I truly believe that I saw the ball go over the line.

"It all happened so quickly but look at my movement when I hit the shot, and also as Chelsea try to clear the ball.

"It’s natural because I saw what I saw, and that was the ball crossing the line."

Garcia also claims he talked to Jose Mourinho after the game.

But the 54-year-old's words were congratulatory rather than angry.

"I knew him well from Barcelona and he tried to sign me when he went to Porto," he added

"After that semi-final he came up to me and wished me luck for the final.

"I have so much respect for him, as I saw how hard he worked to get to where he is now.

"He’ll always deny my goal, but if I was him I’d do the same."
