=Sir — Delhi continues to bear the ignominy of being one of the most polluted cities in the world with alarming indifference. Every year, the slew of emergency measures announced by authorities, at various levels, is not merely a case of too-little too-late, but one of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
The whole of north India is engulfed in a thick blanket of smog, the main reason for which is the burning of paddy straw by farmers, along with low temperature due to which smoke gets trapped in the lowest layer of atmosphere. This level of pollution is affecting asthma and heart patients and also healthy people. Besides, there is loss of life everyday in road accidents caused by smog. As usual, the NGT, as also the media, rapped the Centre and the State Governments for failing to find a solution.
Instead of engaging in pointless debates, what Delhiites need to do is wake up to the severity of the problem facing them, and help the Government come up with comprehensive steps to tackle it. That would be true love for the nation.
