Robbers struck at the residence of a Retired Engineer in posh Kavita Nagar coming under Civil Lines police station area on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday in the city, police said.
The victim, elderly person, was alone at his home when the incident occurred.
According to information from Station House Officer of Civil Lines Police station, the victim Shyamal Parial informed the police that he was alone in his residence .
His wife had gone to Kolkata to distribute wedding cards of their son whose marriage is scheduled on December 1.
He further informed that he had gone to nearby daily needs shop and he returned to his residence at around 11 p.m. in the night.
After switching on the television he was watching a programme when two masked persons came down from the stairs in the room of the victim's residence.
On gun point, they demanded keys of lockers.
When they got the keys, they searched the entire bedroom while scattering the goods all over, he informed.
The robbers found valuable items including and Rs 35,000 to 40,000 cash in the room.
While not satisfied with the goods they found, they again came back and threatened him of the hiding valuables.
While failing to get get more valuables from the victim, they tied his hand and fled , the official informed.
After the victim and neighbours informed the police , a police team reached the spot immediately.
Senior police officials also reached the spot late in the night to investigate the matter.
According to the police official, after registering the case against unidentified persons, police is scanning the recording of CCTV footages, installed in the colony and had sent finger print experts to the spot.
