Terming Congress as anti-Gujarat co-incharge of BJP for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections and India’s Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday said that former Minister of Congress party Saifuddin Soz had cast his decisive vote against Narmada project.
The Opposition party which was at the Centre earlier, never thought of or worked for the State, claimed the Minister while talking to media. Congress did not do anything for Narmada, she said adding that most of the progress in the project was done only when the oldest political party was not in the power, during the Governments of Morarji Desai, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and now Narendra Modi. “I don’t understand how can Congressmen move around the State and talk on this issue that is lifeline of Gujarat,” she added.
Sitharaman said that it was important for the development of poll-bound Gujarat to have Government of the same party in the State as well as at the Centre. Gujarat’s development and progress would remain steady if same Government continues, she said adding that if there is a break in this, Gujarat understands its importance.
The Defence Ministerwho is visiting the State as part of the Mahasampark Yatra by the party. She went door-to-door in the Maninagar constituency, former constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in Ahmedabad earlier in the day.
She also invoked the importance of Sir Creek area of Gujarat coast near Gulf of Kutch in security of the country saying that the role of Sir Creek is very important for the defense of India, though every border area is important but the terrain of Sir Creek is unique and important for political and economic security of the border State of Gujarat.
On being asked about the status of road connectivity and fencing in the region, as was demanded by BJP Government in the State in the past, she said, it was on agenda of Modi Government. The road would be constructed as for the fencing has a lot of technical issues due to sand dunes, she stated.
