Buckle up Star Wars fans, the upcoming film The Last Jedi is all set to be the entire franchise’s longest adventure yet. While speaking at a press conference, director Rian Johnson confirmed that The Last Jedi will be 2 hours and 30 minutes long, making it the longest film in the space-opera movie franchise so far, reports Contactmusic.

At 150 minutes, this runtime surpasses the previous longest film in the franchise, George Lucas’ 2002 prequel Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, which clocked in at 142 minutes.

The last two films in the franchise, The Last Jedi’s prequel Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One, were 135 and 133 minutes long, respectively. While speaking at the press conference, Johnson also added that he had total freedom in writing the movie.

“There was a real freedom in writing. It was something very organic. For me, it was like when I worked on my old movies,” noted Johnson. The Last Jedi is the second installment in the sequel trilogy. This is the third Star Wars live-action trilogy since the franchise began in 1977.

Helmed by Rian Johnson, The Last Jedi stars Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, and Gwendoline Christie in pivotal roles. The flick is slated to release on December 15. John Williams, the legendary composer who has been associated with the franchise for a long time, returns to score The Last Jedi.

The final installment, tentatively titled Episode IX, is scheduled to be released on December 20, 2019.
