Panaji: After a special court on Saturday postponed the hearing on an anticipatory bail petition filed by former Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) searched his residence and two other places in Margao, but could not find him.

Karthik Kashyap, Superintendent of Police (in-charge), SIT, told The Hindu that the SIT is trying to track him down in connection with the probe into the multi-crore illegal mining, but ‘he is untraceable’. “He was not at his residence or the two other places. We are on the lookout for him.”

The anti-corruption court posted the hearing to Monday. The SIT has summoned Mr. Kamat to be present before it on Tuesday.

Mr. Kamat, along with the then principal secretary, Mines, Rajiv Yaduvanshi, and other officials are being probed for allowing mining companies to fraudulently avail of the ‘condonation of delay’ clause to renew their iron ore mining leases.

After quizzing by SIT sleuths for around five days, Mr. Yaduvanshi, who is currently the health secretary in the Delhi administration, turned approver on Saturday.

Mr. Kamat could not be reached despite several attempts.
