GURUGRAM: A four-year-old girl succumbed to her injuries on Sunday after being hit by a Mercedes car near her home off Old Delhi-Gurgaon road.
According to the girl's parents, the four-year-old, identified as Devika, was playing by the roadside around 3pm on Sunday, near Raj Cinema, when a white-coloured Mercedes (HR26 CM 0006) hit her from behind. Though the driver immediately applied the breaks, Devika fell on the footpath, her head hit the ground and suffered severe injures.
The accused and a few residents in the area rushed Devika to General Hospital in Civil Lines where she breathed her last around 3.40pm during the treatment .
According to the police, the driver of the car has been identified as Sunil while the car is registered in the name of one Sandhya.
"An FIR has been registered against Sunil under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC. Sunil hails from Mahendragarh and considering the VIP number of the car, we are trying to find its owner," said ASI Narpat Singh, Sector 14 police station.
