VADODARA: It's celebration time in the Pandya family.
Krunal Pandya, elder brother of India cricketer Hardik Pandya, is all set to begin a fresh innings of his life in Mumbai next month. Twenty-six-year-old Krunal, one of the stars of this season's Indian Premier League (IPL), will be marrying Pankhuri Sharma, who he has been dating for last one-and-half years. Krunal, an all-rounder who plays for Baroda, said that they will get married on December 27 at a five-star hotel in Santa Cruz.
"We will marry in a ceremony attended by family members and close relatives. On the same evening, a reception will be organized. I am very happy that I am marrying a girl who is more like a friend and understands me," Krunal told TOI.
The all-rounder, who opted out of Ranji matches this season due to injuries, is currently working hard to regain his match fitness.
When asked how he met Pankhuri, Krunal revealed, "She is a friend of my friend. We met at a common gathering two years ago and developed a liking for each other. We both are of same age and get along a lot. What I like about her is her simplicity and supportive nature."
Pankhuri, who has been staying in Mumbai for last five years, was earlier into film marketing but she quit the profession last year.
So, who popped the question first? "Well, I proposed her for marriage after our team Mumbai Indians became champions in the IPL this year. I was awarded man of the match in the finals and I thought it was the right time," Krunal said.
"Pankhuri immediately said yes. My family too is very happy. I believe that if you find the right partner then relationship is the best part of your life. I found the right girl," he added.
But Krunal is clear that cricket will always remain his top priority. "She understands that cricket is my life and supports me. She doesn't watch matches much except those that I play in," he laughed.
Krunal's father Himanshu said that his blessings are with Krunal and Pankhuri. "I wish them a good life. After marriage Pankhuri will be moving to Vadodara in our new home," he said.
