What Brexit exodus? Toby Young hits out at Project Fear claims

BREXITEER Toby Young has hit out at Remainers for claiming there would be an exodus of EU nationals after the historic vote to leave the bloc.

Toby Young, a British journalist who voted to Leave last year, unravelled the scaremongering warning after he suggested Remainers had performed a "sleight of hand" when they predicted a Brexit exodus after the referendum.

According to the Office for National Statistics, the number of EU nationals working in the UK have in fact reached a record level.

Between July and September this year, an estimated 2.38 million EU nationals began work in the UK - a rise of 112,000 compared with 2016.

This is the highest number since records began 20 years ago.

Migration Watch UK said the figures proved the UK would retain its appeal to EU citizens after Brexit.

Young said: "This was a move made by Remainers, that simply voting to leave would trigger an exodus. But we still have highly skilled migrants working in our NHS.

"100,000 people more than last year - and there are more doctors this year than last year."

He rebuked Rachel Sylvester, who works for The Times, after she said Brexit voters will feel betrayed by these figures.

However, Young praised this as evidence of Brexit resulting in managed migration flows, before hitting out again at Remain scare tactics.

Remainers always talk about the numbers leaving without mentioning the numbers arriving. It is a Remainer sleight of hand

Young said: "Remainers always talk about the numbers leaving without mentioning the numbers arriving. It is a Remainer sleight of hand.

"If you include inflows, there are more EU nationals working here ever before. Fewer low-skills coming in, more high-skilled migrants."

He also added that given fewer low-skilled migrants, wages would soon be pushed up.
