IFFI to open with Iranian filmmaker's Beyond The Clouds

The of (IFFI) 2017 is all set to open with renowned Iranian filmmaker Majid Majidi's 'Beyond The Clouds', an official statement from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said.

The festival will be presenting 195 films from over 82 countries. There will also be 10 World Premieres, 10 Asian and International premieres and over 64 Indian premieres, the Ministry said.

of 2017 has garnered a great amount of buzz owing to its stellar announcements that include many firsts.

The premiere of the Indo Argentinian Co-production "Thinking of Film" directed by Pablo Cesar will also be held.

Noted actor will grace the opening ceremony of the festival, as a special guest while the closing ceremony will be attended by Salman Khan.

This is in addition to a galaxy of noted industry professionals, international guests, dignitaries and film celebrities who will attend 2017, the statement said.

The International Competition section of 2017, which carries a cash prize of over Rs. 1 crore will showcase 15 of the finest films of this year, competing for the Golden and Silver Peacock awards.

"This edition of the Festival will also be presenting films from a record number of women filmmakers (over 30) in addition to a carefully curated section of Restored classics from across the globe," the statement said.

Among many other firsts at the Festival, 2017 will present a specially curated section celebrating the most loved spy in films, James Bond, the release said.

2017 will present the coveted Indian film personality of the year award on acclaimed actor Amitabh Bachchan and the Lifetime Achievement award to celebrated Canadian director Atom Egoyan.
