Dimitrov beat David Goffin 7-5, 4-6, 6-3 in a thrilling final at the O2 Arena, marred by the crowd repeatedly calling out at inopportune moments of the Belgian’s service game.

But Dimitrov was nevertheless worthy of his fine victory and admitted that he could not have taken the biggest title of his career without the help of his pop star girlfriend

“One person that has been around the whole of this week and played a pretty important part was my girlfriend Nicole,” Dimitrov said.

“She’s somewhere hiding.

“She deserves quite a bit of credit for these two weeks. 

“It was just great to be out here and win that.”

The pair are thought to have been together for two years and the relationship has coincided with the best 12 months of Dimitrov’s career.

He won 16 of his first 17 matches of 2017, taking the title in Brisbane, before making a run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open.

And the Bulgarian had been in imperious form at his first ever ATP World Tour Finals in London, beating Pablo Carreno Busta, Dominic Thiem and Goffin himself, 6-0, 6-2.

However, the Belgian put up far more of a fight in the final and Dimitrov had to be at his very best to claim victory.

“It has been one of the best weeks I have ever had,” Dimitrov added.

“I am lost for words – I am usually very good at that.”
