PUNE: Unidentified persons broke open two apartments in Kalyaninagar and one in Wadgaonsheri sometime between Thursday morning and afternoon and fled with cash as well as ornaments worth Rs4.82 lakh.

The two apartments in Kalyaninagar were in Neptune society and the one the burglars targeted in Wadgaonsheri was Nyati Meadows.

The apartments in Kalyaninagar and Wadgaonsheri are barely one-and-a-half kilometre away from the other.

According to the Yerawada police, the burglaries took place between 8am and 3pm on Thursday. Senior police inspector Mukund Mahajan and inspector Ashok Kadam examined all three houses before a first information report (FIR) was registered.

One of the victims of Neptune society lodged a complaint with the police. The complainant runs an English-medium school in Wagholi and had kept the recently collected tuition fees at his home. He was to deposit the sum in the bank soon. The burglary allegedly took place sometime after he and his wife left home for the school in the morning.

The complaint states that the suspect broke open the lock of the apartment and stole the cash that was kept in a cupboard. The suspects also stole gold ornaments from the house. In all, the cash and gold ornaments is estimated to be worth Rs4.82 lakh. The incident came to light after the couple returned home from the school around 3pm.

Similarly, the suspects also broke open door of a neighbouring apartment. As the owner is out of town at the moment, the amount of the stolen valuables could not be ascertained.

At Nyati Meadows, the suspects burgled an apartment but nothing was stolen from the house, said Mahajan.

The officer told TOI that both housing societies have assigned security guards apart from installing CCTV cameras. "We are studying the CCTV footage. The suspects may have entered the society premises as visitors or guests of some residents, who live there," he added.
