Nagpur: The magistrate court on Saturday sent the stalker, who had attacked a 30-year-old woman near Manewada square, to jail.
The accused, Kunal Kharat, was produced by the Hudkeshwar police station, who placed him under arrest a day ago following a complainant by the survivor.
Zonal DCP S Chaitanya, taking cognizance of TOI's report on November 18 regarding the stalker, extended his assistance to the survivor on Saturday. Sources said the officer of Sakkardara police station, who ignored the survivor's approach in March, may face action for dereliction of duty.
Kharat was handed over to the Hudkeshwar police by the passers by after the survivor fought back following an unprovoked assault. It was after his arrest the Hudkeshwar police slapped Kharat with charges of molestation, assault and criminal intimidation before putting behind the bars.
Hudkeshwar police station in-charge Sunil Jhaware said Kharat also faces preventive actions after his release.
The survivor, who was being harassed by Kharat since March, was earlier turned away by the Sakkardara police without registering an offence. As a result, Kharat had been stalking the survivor for the last nine months. Kharat used to follow the survivor on her way to work and other places.
