With Tariq Hameed Karra quitting both the party and his Lok Sabha seat, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is facing an internal war for sure. He accused the PDP top brass selling out its ideals and not paying attention to the people’s demands must be taken seriously. Also his complain that the PDP is treating people ‘much worse than Nazi forces’ should definitely be examined by the party leader and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minster Mehbooba Mufti immediately.
He being one of the founding members of the party, Mehbooba should have persuaded him not take such an extreme step. This shows how the party is facing a serious crisis within. With the demise of the grand ‘Mufti Saab’, father of Mehbooba, the party elders are not very contented the way she is functioning. Therefore it may be an emerging tug of war between the party old guards and the Mehbooba camp for wresting power in the days to come.
Precisely, the crisis in the State is on the rise. Despite the Centre taking numerous steps to engage all the stakeholders, the strike is on and violence is on the upward scale. Why is it happening? Is it because of the PDP’s alliance with the BJP? Is it the coming back of the old tactics of the militants in the valley? The Government must go beyond the regular course of action and see to it that violence comes to an end. Surely, the alliance of the PDP with the BJP may have not gone well with many of the senior leaders of the former.
But it must be noted that the militants and separatists in the valley are working hard to destabilize all the efforts of peace making by the Government by using the youth. At a time when the State is facing such a huge crisis, Karra should have stood behind his party. The services of senior leaders like him would have immense potential for bringing back normalcy to the State.
