A new high definition CCTV camera installed at Sambalpur DHH | Express

SAMBALPUR:In a bid to strengthen surveillance system, high definition CCTV cameras are being installed at Sambalpur district headquarters hospital (DHH) by replacing the existing ones.

The step was taken by the district administration as poor quality footage from the existing CCTV cameras installed at the DHH failed to help the police find any clues of the suspected woman who stole a newborn baby from the hospital. The cops continue to grope in dark about the child lifter even though footage of the suspected woman wrapped in a yellow shawl was recorded in a CCTV camera.

Manager of DHH Sudeep Dutta said as many as 60 high definition CCTV cameras have been installed on the hospital premises besides Mother and Child Health Care Centre. The configuration work is underway and the cameras will be made functional shortly, he said. The footage from the new cameras will be better and sharper compared to the existing ones, Dutta added. The estimated cost for installation of new CCTV cameras is `6 lakhs and the fund has been provided by District Mineral Foundation (DMF).

Earlier, 64 CCTV cameras had been installed at the corridors of the hospital but the images captured were of poor quality.A newborn baby boy of Aniruddha Majhi and his wife Gitanjali of Amilipani village under Jujumura block was stolen from the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Ward of the DHH on the wee hours of March 24 this year. While the incident had created widespread uproar in the city, the police are still clueless about the child lifter even after more than seven months.

Sources said the couple is still housed in a cabin on the DHH premises hoping to get back their baby boy. The hospital authorities are providing food to the husband and wife who have made it clear that they would not leave the hospital until they get back their child.
